Foundation of Panamá(la Vieja)

Saturday September 14 we had the Foundation of Panama event. Panama celebrates their National Day of Foundation every August 15th. Actually, 15th august is the combined anniversary celebration of both foundation of Panama Vieja and the opening of the Panama Canal.

Since we are in Houston we celebrated here on the 13th. Saturday, morning we had a Thanksgiving mass were we gave thanks for our country and its people. The reverend gave a wonderful & inspiring message. Afterwards, We had refreshments and sang the national anthem as well as we were delight with a Poem Patria. Two sopranos sang and it was such a glorious moment. Their angelic voices were magnificent. What a great way to start the celebration.

At night, We had a Noche criolla; Were Panama Canal made some wonderful food. They had a criollo plate which consists of 2 tortillas or 2 hojaldres with carne guisada. The meat was superb. They also had carimañolas(yucca-fritters), Empanadas de maiz ( Corn turnovers with meat) this turnovers were delicious. Chicheme ( corn drink) it was good. They Cooked right and then so everything was made fresh. Love it.

They had a little program starting by singing the national anthem while watching images of their country in the projector. beautiful pictures. Followed by a video explaining the Foundation of Panama. Everyone love it because they could see their country and reminisce those times. The Host and speaker was hilarious later he introduced the group. Folklore of Panama. we were delighted by the Folklore dances. They dance few traditional Panamanian daces and they were phenomenal. The little girl truly stole the show.

I had a blast, My family was exhausted but proud to have had a wonderful event. This event was my first time performing and I love it.

It was nice to see people from all over like Colombia, Puerto Rico, USA, Mexico and of course Panama. Such a pleasure to gather with fellow patriots and new friends. I was complete thrilled to see old and new generation enjoying themselves and loving every minute.
