My Feelings Are Valid — My Reactions Are Chosen
There are moments when emotions rise quickly
hurt, frustration, disappointment, grief.
They rush in before we can catch them, and they feel real because they are real.
There is nothing sinful about feeling deeply.
God created your heart with the capacity to feel, to care, to respond.
He does not ask you to deny your emotions or minimize what stirs inside you.
But He does invite you into something deeper.
You are not called to be ruled by every emotion that visits your heart, but to be anchored instead.
Led, not driven.
Aware, not overtaken.
Your feelings are information, not instruction.
They reveal what matters.
They highlight wounds.
They point to places that may need care or truth.
But they were never meant to take control.
Even Jesus Christ felt deeply; He wept, He grieved, He expressed righteous anger, yet He was never ruled by emotion alone.
He responded with intention, wisdom, and love.
And because His Spirit lives in you, that same strength is available to you.
There is power in the pause.
In the moment between feeling and reacting.
In choosing to breathe, to pray, to remember who you are and whose you are.
You can acknowledge the emotion without surrendering to it.
You can honor what you feel without acting impulsively.
You can be honest and wise.
Your reactions shape your witness.
They form your character.
They reveal what's anchoring your heart.
Today, when something stirs within you, remember this truth:
You don't have to react to everything you feel.
You are free to choose a response rooted in peace.
And that repeated choice is where maturity is formed.
Heart Reflection
- What emotions rise most quickly in me?
- Do I tend to react immediately, or do I pause?
- What would it look like to bring my feelings to God before responding?
Prayer
Lord,
Thank you for creating in me the ability to feel deeply.
You see every emotion before I ever speak it. Help me not to be overwhelmed by what I feel, but to bring it to You first. Teach me to pause before I react, to choose wisdom over impulse, and peace over pressure. Shape my responses so they reflect Your heart, not just my emotions. Anchor me in Your truth when my feelings feel loud. Amen.
