Carrying One Another's Burdens
Scripture
"Carry one another's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." — Galatians 6:2 (NIV)
Devotional
One of the greatest gifts God gives us in motherhood is not a perfect plan or endless strength; it is people.
In a culture that often celebrates independence and self-sufficiency, it's easy to believe we should be able to do it all on our own. We hesitate to ask for help because we don't want to inconvenience anyone. We compare ourselves to other mothers and assume they're managing just fine while we're barely holding it together.
But Scripture paints a different picture.
God never intended His children to carry life's burdens alone. Instead, He calls us to carry one another's burdens, reflecting the love and compassion of Christ. Sometimes we are the ones offering a meal, watching a friend's children, praying over a weary heart, or sending a simple text that says, "I'm thinking about you." Other times, we are the ones who need someone to sit beside us, encourage us, and remind us that we are not alone.
Both require humility.
It takes humility to serve without expecting recognition. It also takes humility to receive help without feeling guilty or inadequate.
Jesus Himself modeled this kind of community. He welcomed others to minister to Him, walked closely with His disciples, and continually demonstrated that God's family is meant to live in relationship, not isolation.
Motherhood was never designed to be a solitary journey. God often answers our prayers through the faithful presence of His people. Every act of kindness, every shared burden, every whispered prayer, and every meal delivered in love becomes a tangible reminder of His care.
Whether you are carrying someone else's burden today or someone is helping carry yours, remember this: both are beautiful expressions of the Gospel.
Application
Today, ask the Lord to show you where He is inviting you to step into biblical community.
- Is there someone who has been carrying a burden alone? Reach out with a phone call, a meal, a prayer, or an offer to help.
- Have you been trying to do everything yourself? Consider sharing your struggle with a trusted friend and allowing her to walk alongside you.
- Thank God for the women He has placed in your life, and intentionally encourage one of them today.
Small acts of faithfulness often become the very evidence of God's love in someone's life.
Reflection
- Have I been trying to carry burdens that God intended me to share with trusted believers?
- Who has God used to strengthen me during difficult seasons of motherhood?
- Is there a mother in my life who may be quietly waiting for someone to notice she needs encouragement?
- What simple act of love can I offer this week that reflects the heart of Christ?
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for creating us for community and reminding us that we were never meant to walk through life alone. Thank You for the women You have used to encourage, strengthen, and care for me in different seasons of motherhood.
Forgive me for the times I have believed I had to carry every burden by myself. Teach me to receive help with humility and to offer it with generosity. Give me eyes to notice the mothers who are weary, lonely, or discouraged. Help me to reflect the love of Christ through simple acts of kindness, faithful prayers, and a willing heart.
Build Your Kingdom through the ordinary moments of my life. Whether I am the one offering support or the one receiving it, may everything I do point others to You.
Thank You that You never leave us or forsake us and that You often remind us of Your presence through the people You place in our lives.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
